With a unanimous vote during its meeting on Tuesday, the Ontario City Council approved the purchase of a diesel exhaust system for the Ontario Fire Department. The system will protect firefighters from fumes created by fire trucks started in the bay.
The move is one designed to improve personnel safety in the bay of the fire department, where the trucks are kept and started.
According to an agenda report to the City Council, the fire department wanted to move forward with purchase of the exhaust system “to provide a safer, cleaner environment for staff as soon as possible.” Cost for the exhaust system is $67,220. The City of Ontario will be paying for the project, but will be reimbursed 100 percent of the cost by the Ontario Rural Fire District. It should be noted that the exhaust system was discussed and supported by the budget committee earlier this year.
