Rocky Point Fire and EMS Chief Glenn Harman passed away in his home Tuesday at the age of 64. Harman served as fire chief of the volunteers station since May 2014, and Fire Captain and Board President Fred Hill said his friend and colleague would be dearly missed. Harman’s passing was not necessarily sudden as he had health struggles over the past few years, Hill said. But he was a brilliant light in the Rocky Point community who consistently went out of his way to help others, even for simple tasks like changing lightbulbs. “Chief Harman was basically the essence of our fire station and extremely loved,” Hill said. “He’s hard to replace, and that was the discussion in the board room today: we’re never gonna find anyone like him.” Hill said the station is deciding how to move forward with hiring a new chief — either someone from in-house or new — but in the meantime, Harman’s position is being covered by Rocky Point fire volunteers and support from nearby agencies.
