Located along old stage road on the west end of town in Central Point, Oregon, Madrone Hill is a community of mostly senior citizens.
Fire District Three announced that Madrone Hill was to be the new addition to the national program known as Firewise USA. "Firewise," is a relatively new term given to communities that are well prepared against wildfires.
Fire District Three worked closely with members of the community in efforts to reduce fire hazards.
More than four acres of land were cleared from flammable debris, numerous fire hydrants were installed along the edge of the community, and a water well was installed that could be shared with neighboring communities if needed.
The owner of Madrone Hill said,
"The welfare and health of the people in this community is our number one concern, and we live right next to a forest on one side and so its nice to take some extra precautions."
