Giant Eagle's Pittsburgh partner Dietz and Watson awarded a check for $2,500 to the Erie Fire Department Tuesday evening.
The check was presented at one of the many National Night Out events in Erie.
The money will be used for the fire department's Close the Door campaign.
The check will help firefighters with materials and outreach for the program, which educates children and adults about how closing your door can save your life in a fire.
"We've had fires in the city here where we've walked down a hallway after the fire, and everything is black and melted and burnt," said John Widomski, chief fire inspector for the Erie Fire Department. "We walk into a room where the door was closed, and it looks like nothing happened."
