A new bill would ensure members of volunteer fire and ambulance companies qualify for coverage under Pennsylvania's workers’ compensation program if they're injured in the line of duty. State Sens. Randy Vulakovich (R-Allegheny) and Scott Martin (R-Lancaster) said their bill would settle an ongoing debate and clarify that volunteers qualify for coverage. “Volunteer fire and emergency services personnel are exposed to the same dangers as members of paid companies, and they certainly deserve the same protections under the law,” Martin said in a statement. The senators said their legislation was developed after a hearing on the issue before the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
