Emergency first responders must train for rescues that could be needed anywhere: from pulling a scared kitten out of street-side storm sewer, to a soccer team trapped in flooding underground caves. Members of the Perkiomen Township and Trappe fire companies practiced Monday (July 16, 2018) in the Perkiomen Greene housing community for that kind of specialized operation (at top and below), known as a confined space rescue. They’re working to earn certifications for their capabilities, according to the Perkiomen company’s Facebook page. The unusual work attracted several neighborhood area children who, the departments hope, might one day become firefighters themselves.
