The Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners heard several fire station assistant chiefs defend the volunteer fire department Chief David Nelson’s leadership at its Monday meeting. The comments came after a longtime volunteer firefighter had come before the board at a previous meeting to complain of Fire Chief David Nelson’s leadership style and policies and to say that Nelson’s leadership has been driving away several longtime volunteers. Among the changes Nelson, who became chief in September 2016, has made to the department was the requirement for all members to complete 80 hours of training a year.
