The Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department will receive a new radio tower, courtesy of a joint venture between Crawford and Venango Counties, which will solve a problem the department has had with “dead zones,” according to Fire Chief Sam Firster.
“Our area that we service, Plum Township and Troy Township, we have a lot of dead spots where radio communications don’t exist,” Firster told The Herald.
These dead zones are the result of the department answering calls in both Crawford and Venango counties. Since the counties use two different radio frequencies for emergency dispatch, the department loses connection when switching from one county to the other.
