The Conemaugh Township supervisors approved a firefighter tax credit Wednesday, which they hope will help retain current firefighters and lure in new ones. The ordinance will give any fire department or EMS volunteer a tax reimbursement of 20 percent of their township property taxes and $200 of their earned income taxes. The volunteer must serve a minimum of 100 hours a year with a fire department or EMS within the township. It is not limited to emergency personnel. People who volunteer with fundraisers or other duties for a fire department or ambulance service are also eligible.
