Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a central Pennsylvania fire blamed on careless smoking. The York County coroner's office says 54-year-old Jeffrey Egger was found deceased in his York Township residence late Saturday night with thermal injuries and smoke inhalation. York Area Regional Police are investigating but have concluded that the cause of the blaze was careless discarding of smoking materials. Chief Nate Tracey of the Goodwill Fire Company told the York Daily Record that the man had recently been discharged from a hospital, needed an oxygen tank to breathe and was also a "heavy smoker." He said there were no working fire alarms in the house, and he believed the blaze had been burning for a half-hour before crews were dispatched.
