New homes are being built faster and with cheaper materials. However, Harrisburg’s Fire Chief says these cheaper materials could cost his firefighters their lives. “Locally there was an elderly lady that was killed in a house fire in a local township. It was the result of a collapse and it was a light weight construction. The home was less than two years old”, said Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline. “That lightweight construction is what has killed firefighters from across this country because it is so quick and prone to collapse”, said Enterline. According to Chief Enterline, Pennsylvania ranks 3rd when it comes to fire deaths out of all 50 states. However he says there is one easy solution. “The sprinkler head is what should be put in all these new homes being built in Pennsylvania unfortunately it’s not because it was ripped out of the building code”, said Enterline.
