After the 9-1-1: Suicide rates among first responders surpass line of duty deaths

It's the side of law enforcement and emergency professions that you don't see, first responders dealing with struggling with emotional trauma, after the things they see day in and day out. They're the ones who run towards danger when we run away from it, but how do they cope with the things they see on the job? Statistics show us many are struggling after the 9-1-1. "There's always the old saying, we really do, we see people at their worst times," Captain Michael Van Luvender, with the Plains Township Fire Department, said. Police officers, firefighters, and EMTs see things most people don't witness everyday, just ask Hazleton City Police Chief, Jerry Speziale. "I was shot and had to take someone's life. But in that situation, I didn't have an alternative. I didn't have an opportunity to say should I not shoot?
