Main Street in Mocanaqua, Conyngham Township could be getting a new name. In this I-Team exclusive, the decision has to do with potential safety issues identified by Luzerne County 911. This location made headlines after a confusing dispatch during a deadly fire in 2014. Court documents show the person who called 911 incorrectly gave the location of the fire as Mocanaqua, Conyngham Borough. Firefighters were seven minutes late because Luzerne County 911 operators mistakenly sent crews 15 miles away. Luzerne County 911 Director Fred Rosencrans said people continue to confuse the two municipalities, and technology can't always pinpoint the exact location of the caller, especially from a cell phone. That's why he's recommending that Conyngham Township rename and renumber Main Street. "I know it's an inconvenience, but that minor inconvenience in life can save someone's life tomorrow," said Rosencrans.
