A bomb squad was called to a home in Whitehall this morning for a reported explosion, which the homeowner later said was caused by a device that was fired or thrown through his front window. Whitehall Township police and fire departments were dispatched to 1714 Juniper Drive just before 3:30 a.m. for a report of an explosion and fire that released some kind of irritating gas. According to a news release, police located an “unspecified device” and called in the Allentown bomb squad and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. No injuries were reported. Whitehall Fire Chief Dave Nelson said his crew was called because there were flames coming from the explosion, but that there was no fire when crews arrived.
