A Ligonier Township man allegedly admitted to police that he set his home on fire Tuesday night, according to Ligonier Valley Police Assistant Chief Mike Matrunics. The man is awaiting arraignment at the Westmoreland County Prison. No charges had been filed Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported. Matrunics said the suspect rents the property and officers found drug paraphernalia on him. “He admitted to the officers that he lit it on fire,” Matrunics said. The fire was reported by a motorist around 11:35 p.m. Tuesday on Route 30 east of Laughlintown and behind the Washington Furnace Inn. Firefighters from several departments arrived to flames shooting through the roof. Police said the man broke into a neighbor’s house across the street and used a fire extinguisher inside. The home was destroyed, Matrunics said.
