Members of the North Providence Firefighters Local 2334 defeated the Johnston Firefighters Local 1950 for a second straight year in the flag football Fire Bowl last Thursday, winning 13-0. It was a good game and an even better result, said North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi. Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena lost his second straight bet on the game, said Lombardi, and will now have to wax Lombardi’s SUV as his punishment. After last year’s loss, Polisena had to wash Lombardi’s vehicle outside of Johnston Town Hall. Lombardi said he was feeling much more confident going into this year’s Fire Bowl after watching last year’s game and “seeing the crop of firefighters we have and the condition they’re in.” Last week’s fundraising event at Johnston High High School also raised money and food for the Tri-Town Community Action food bank, with an entire rescue vehicle again filled with food donations from firefighters and fans. The town unions and mayors donated money to the cause.
