Joe Tashash, who was the single Lonsdale Fire District member to stay on the board following the district’s financial collapse, was expected to announce his decision to step down from his position during the station’s rescheduled meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Tashash told The Breeze his decision is best for the current board and taxpayers, as members of his family have been ill and are still busy running five businesses: Lincoln Creamery and Burger Boys in Lincoln, Salon Tash in Smithfield and two Subway restaurants, one located in Emerald Square Mall in North Attleboro, Mass., and another in Woonsocket. “At this time,” he said, this is “the best decision for me and the fire district.” He explained that someone who can commit more time will better serve Lonsdale in this position, but he will take more of a “backseat role” to help the district navigate through decision-making about the station’s future. Tashash said he may ask to stay involved as an auditor or similar position for the district and discuss this with the board, but no longer fulfill an everyday role.
