More than three dozen firefighters from several departments responded to a fire on America Way in Jamestown early Friday morning. The fire started around 3 a.m. as crews worked for hours trying to put out the flames. Officials said the fire started in the garage and worked its way through a portion of the home. The garage appears to be a total loss, and also part of the roof was destroyed. Two cars were charred in the fire. Crews pulled water from a nearby pond across the street since the closest fire hydrant was 2.5 miles away. A husband and wife were home at the time of the fire and after hearing their smoke detectors going off, they called 911. The couple and their dog were able to escape without injury. There’s no word on what may have caused the fire.
