Crews remain on the scene of a large fire that broke out overnight at a vacant mill near the border of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Tiverton Fire Chief Robert Lloyd said his department got the call at about 2:10 a.m. Monday and responded to find the Mill Street building consumed with heavy smoke and flames. Firefighters from both Tiverton and Fall River quickly went into a defensive position to protect themselves as they battled the two-alarm fire. The building is situated near the Bourne Mill apartment complex. Coincidentally, the Tiverton Fire Department has been using it for training, and the chief said the fire is suspicious not only because the building is vacant, but also because there’s no power to the mill.
