Fire crews from surrounding towns were called to Woonsocket Tuesday night to fight a multi-alarm fire just before 8 p.m. “There was no smoke when we got here and soon after that there was smoke on all three floors suddenly, and it seemed unusual so we needed to have the help here just in case it got out of control,” said Woonsocket Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Bissonnette. According to Bissonnette, four different towns responded and several surrounding streets in the area were closed. Officials said it was a neighbor that reported an orange glow from inside 117 East School Street and called them to the scene, leading them the smoke. Crews launched an interior attack on all three floors and the basement, officials explained. Roland Burgess witnessed the event. He said he, “saw a cop coming and they came up and blocked off the road and I looked up at the high rise and saw a bunch of white smoke coming out and that’s all we saw.”
