The family of the late Kenneth Hogan, who died "while undergoing transport and treatment with Cumberland Rescue on Dec. 27, 2014," is seeking a financial settlement from the town of Cumberland. In a letter listed on the Feb. 3 Town Council docket, attorney Austin Dana of East Providence is advising the town that the family is looking for a settlement that avoids "costly and emotional litigation." The settlement, he said, will release "all potential defendants" from liability. Town officials declined to comment, and the Town Council has forwarded the case to the town solicitor. Involved in many local activities, Hogan, 70, was a 37-year resident of Cumberland who had been chief financial officer of the former Providence Gas Co. and former Valley Gas Co. from 1976 to 2002. He was a decorated U.S. Army infantry captain who had served two tours in Vietnam. He left a wife, Sabina, three sons and their families. According to Dana, the rescue had been called to the Hogan home on Hayfield Lane early in the morning of Dec. 27, 2014, to find Hogan had been suffering from right-sided chest pain since the previous evening. While underway to Landmark Hospital, according to the lawsuit, his condition worsened. "The Cumberland Rescue Service report states that Mr. Hogan went into ventricle fibrillation arrest," according to the attorney's letter.
