Local firefighters will be able to buy needed new equipment, thanks to $300,000 worth of federal grants from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, and Rep. David Cicilline joined in the announcement Wednesday at Lime Rock Fire District’s station number 2. The funding will go to the Lime Rock Fire District, the Albion Fire Department and the Rhode Island Fire Academy (RIFA). The equipment will include new training equipment, mission-critical air-packs, and turnout gear including suits, boots and helmets. Sen. Reed led the message of gratitude for all that firefighters currently do for their communities, as well as for all they’ll be able to do now that the funding is secured. “We cannot do enough for the men and women of our fire services, and our police departments, and our public safety officials who protect us each and every day.” “This grant program is designed so that firefighters across the country can get the best quality apparatus that they need,” added Sen. Whitehouse.
