A small plane has crashed on Block Island.
New Shoreham Police Chief Vincent Carlone told Eyewitness News that it happened at about 3 p.m. Sunday when the plane was attempting to land. It overran the end of the runway, went through a fence, across a street, and down an embankment into thick brush. The crash sparked a small brush fire, which was quickly extinguished.
Carlone said there were six people aboard the plane, none of whom were seriously hurt.
About an hour after the crash, Carlone said he did not yet know where the plane was coming from or the identities of those aboard.
