The Providence Fire Department reports one person is dead following a fire at a vacant home on Linwood Avenue. Fire crews were called to a two-alarm house fire around 2a.m. Wednesday. Assistant fire Chief Scott Mello tells NBC 10 News when firefighters arrived the home was engulfed and flames were shooting out at every direction. "[We] made an aggressive interior attack and we found one person deceased inside," said Mello. A medical examiner's vehicle arrived on scene sometime after 4:30a.m. along with arson investigators. Despite the close proximity of neighboring houses, the flames were contained by firefighters. "They did a great job containing [the fire] to the house of origin," said Mello.
