East Providence Police believe they've found one of the suspects responsible for a car fire that damaged a basketball court on Pierce Field. Miguel Jose Dejesus, 25, appeared in Providence District Court Tuesday on unrelated charges after his arrest on Monday. According to Capt. Bruce Kidman, Dejesus entered the Atomic Hair Salon on Taunton Avenue on May 13 and pulled out a handgun. Kidman said Dejesus demanded a barber handover his necklace, but the barber refused and Dejesus fled from the scene. On Monday, Dejesus allegedly assaulted a man and robbed him on 4th Street before fleeing, but was arrested at his house a short time later. Dejesus was charged with one count of attempted first degree robbery and one count of second degree robbery. His bail was set for $50,000 with surety. However, East Providence police also plan to charge Dejesus with a car fire that damaged Pierce Field on May 12. "Mr. Dejesus is believed to have shown up with somebody else and played basketball," Kidman said. "After he left the scene, it's believed he arrived back at the scene with the handgun and robbed the two gentlemen." Kidman went on to say that when the two victims returned to the park with a spare set of car keys, they found the car burning on the basketball court. Police said they intend to charge Dejesus for the robbery and arson, but are also searching for the other suspect.
