Fire Chief Brian Rooney is retiring after 44 years with the Bridgeport Police Department, the city announced Thursday.
City spokesman Av Harris said Rooney’s last day would be next Tuesday, and that the city hoped to announce a new fire chief “within days.”
Rooney became the department’s acting chief in February 2005 when Michael Maglione left to take the Waterbury fire chief job. In May 2006, Rooney became Bridgeport’s chief, following a nationwide search.
