Not far removed from receivership, the Central Coventry Fire District is now paying an outside public relations person. NBC 10 News went to the Central Coventry Fire District for a potential story Wednesday and was told a public relations person would answer questions. That led NBC 10 to ask why the district needs a PR person. Veteran public relations man Gregg Perry is being brought in at about $135 an hour for his services. The district is already paying a management consultant. After coming out of receivership, the fire district hired Gayle Corrigan a few months ago to run the operation. In an initial call to Corrigan, she told NBC 10 the PR person is being paid through the money being allocated to her through the district budget. She said with the animosity in recent years in the district, she wants Perry to help turn the situation back to positive for taxpayers. In a follow-up call to ask Corrigan if she would talk on camera and other follow-up questions about why the district needs a PR person when other fire departments don't have one, Corrigan accused NBC 10 of harassing her. Corrigan may be familiar to NBC 10 viewers. In 2012, when she was hired to run operations in the financially troubled Central Falls, the I-Team reported Corrigan had been fired from a previous job.
