A large group of burn survivors from around United States, who were accompanied by firefighters and proud of their fortitude, walked in unison along city streets and convened a gathering at the State House Wednesday evening.
The event, dubbed the “Walk of Remembrance,” was part of a national conference that has drawn more than 400 burn survivors along with family, friends and professionals to Providence this week.
In the United States every year, more than 486,000 people receive medical treatment for a burn injury, 136,000 are under the age of 19, and over 3,400 people die of their injuries, according to the organization that managed the event, the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.
