Lonsdale Fire District wardens were hoping to sell the majority of the district’s gear, plus two engines, a brush truck and chief’s vehicle, to the Saylesville Fire department. Now, that plan may be scuttled, as officials learn that the gear wasn’t maintained, and vehicles weren’t turned on, for about 16 months, fire board Chairman Mike Babbitt is saying. Michael Reid, union president of the Local 3023, countered this week, however, that it’s because there was never an agreement between the Lincoln Rescue crew, which operates out of the Lonsdale fire station, and the district’s fire board, after firefighters were all laid off in June 2015.
