Cumberland native John Pliakas, one of the first paramedics at the town’s rescue department in the 1980s, who later served a stint as its director, is retaking the helm. Pliakas, who has served as deputy medical director since January, officially took over as director this week, after being appointed last month to lead the division. He fills the spot vacated by Sean Thompson, who now serves as Lincoln’s rescue director. Pliakas told The Valley Breeze he plans to continue moving the Cumberland department forward, and calls it an honor to be back serving the agency, and community where he grew up.
