One outspoken East Providence city council member says he has more questions than answers on what happened with a list of new firefighter candidates and now he’s calling for an independent investigation. Joseph Botelho, Ward 3 city councilman, is suggesting that the city council vote to hire an independent, outside counsel to coordinate a thorough investigation into the scrapping a firefighter candidate list. That list includes candidates who were set to begin the state fire academy in March. “I don’t know how a list that was certified by a personnel board on January 10 is then not certified on January 17,” Botelho told the NBC 10 I-Team. “I’ve never experienced a situation like this where a list was certified one day then a few days later thrown out.”
