Firefighters and members of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management responded to Chariho Middle School Wednesday morning after a boiler motor fitting split, leading to an oil leak in the boiler room. The response came after staff discovered the oil leak around 7:35 a.m. Chariho Superintendent of Schools Barry Ricci said the leak was detected quickly by a staff member and firefighters were able to shut down the boiler. An environmental cleanup had completed remediation by Wednesday afternoon, officials said. Ricci said a small amount of oil had spread to the boiler room floor, but tests conducted by members of the Hope Valley Fire Department showed no negative readings or air quality concerns.
