Rhode Island fire departments receive $800K in federal funding

Several fire departments in northern Rhode Island will receive $799,532 in federal Assistance to Firefighters Grants, United States Sens. Jack F. Reed and Sheldon T. Whitehouse announced today. Lincoln’s Albion, Lime Rock, Manville, Quinville and Saylesville fire districts, along with Lincoln’s rescue department is receiving $388,637 to purchase new radios and mobile repeater units to enhance the speed and effectiveness of cross-departmental communications. Seven fire departments – Smithfield, North Smithfield, Woonsocket, Lime Rock, Saylesville, Albion and Cumberland – will split a federal share of $203,500 to purchase a new firefighter accountability system to assist departments in keeping track of the location and condition of their firefighters while at emergency incidents.
