Ronald Doire is getting ready to call it a career as chief of the Middletown Fire Department.
According to an email last week to the Town Council and town staff, Doire said his last day on the job will be July 14, capping 35 years in firefighting — including the last seven-plus as head of Middletown Fire.
Doire said Monday he has mixed emotions about his decision to retire, saying he was looking forward to the future, but knows he is going to miss the only job he’d known since he was a young man.
“It’s been a great run, but like they say, you know when it's your time to go,” the 54-year-old Doire said.
