A water tanker that collided with a pickup truck in East Greenwich Thursday afternoon is leaking diesel fuel and snarling traffic. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 4 and Frenchtown Road around 3:30 p.m., with traffic quickly backing up. Rhode Island State Police tweeted that one westbound lane had been closed as authorities worked the scene, which was cleared within about an hour and a half.
William Perry, who is the president of the East Greenwich Firefighters Union, noted on Twitter that the 10,000-gallon tanker is leaking diesel fuel. The East Greenwich fire chief told NBC 10 News it appears that a few dozen gallons of fuel leaked from the tanker truck and into some storm drains, so The Department of Environmental Management is assisting.
