Two more fires have broken out in East Greenwich town government: the firing of the fire chief and another firefighter suing the town.
In an executive session Monday, the Town Council decided to terminate Fire Chief Russell McGillivray, who was hired for three years starting on Jan. 27, 2016, and to replace him with an interim chief, Christopher J. Olsen of Massachusetts.
The actions were announced after the council began its open session Monday evening.
McGillivray is entitled to six months severance pay if he agrees not to contest his termination. His salary in 2016 was $100,585 a year, his contract shows.
