During the 2017 MDA Fill the Boot campaign, the members of the North Providence Fire Department Local 2334 of the International Association of Fire Fighters took to the streets to help children and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases live longer and grow stronger.
Throughout the weekends in August, $27,250 was raised to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. That amount was the highest total raised by any local in the state.
This year’s Fill the Boot campaign was dedicated to retired firefighter David “Ditz” DiIorio, who lost his battle with ALS over the summer.
“This year’s Fill the Boot had a special meaning to the firefighters of North Providence,” said the union in a release. “Ditz was always the first to head out and fill the boot and last to come in. We are grateful to the community of North Providence for their continued support of the MDA boot drives.”
