A brush fire that erupted outside a home at 318 Burdickville Road around 3:30 p.m. Monday spread into the woodline and threatened a neighbor’s home before being brought under control by members of the Charlestown Fire Department. Although the fire covered a 20-foot by 60-foot portion of yard at one point, firefighters doused it quickly which helped prevent any serious damage. Charlestown Fire Chief Don Rathbone said the cause remains under investigation, but early indications were that the fire likely started as a result of an improperly discarded cigarette.
