New controversy surrounding the Warwick Fire Department, this time regarding the omission of a contractual provision in 2015 negotiations regarding the monetization of unused vacation days, has caused another wave of scrutiny to crash over a department that is already the target of multiple inquiries from city officials, angered public whistleblowers and outside auditors. However, on Friday, Mayor Joseph Solomon made a statement that made it apparent that these forces are not the only ones currently taking an active interest into the activities of the Warwick Fire Department. “No one has contacted me directly, but I heard there is an outside agency looking at these issues,” Solomon said, explaining he couldn’t confirm exactly which agency he was referring to at this time. “I haven't been contacted directly, however if anybody comes to me from that agency, I would not deny access to any agency that needs access.”
