The state Fire Marshal's Office said it cannot determine a cause for the destructive fire Wednesday in Common Fence Point because of the severity of the damage.
According to John Dean, the chief deputy state fire marshal, the amount of damage prevented fire investigators from performing a full investigation. As a result, the probe has been closed, Dean said by phone Friday morning.
Determining the identity of the human remains found at the scene of the fire could take a matter of days or weeks at least, according to state Department of Health spokesman Joseph Wendelken. Investigators believe one person died in the fire.
