A dog is being credited with helping a Warwick resident escape a fire early Friday morning.
Battalion Chief Marc Lamiroy said the dog’s barking woke up a sleeping resident of an Abbott Avenue home when the fire broke out, helping the man get out with only a minor injury.
“He did good,” Lamiroy said of the pooch. “He loved all the firemen and all the people.”
Firefighters had put out the blaze, centered in the back of the home, within about 20 minutes.
One cat survived, but one died from smoke inhalation on the second floor, Lamiroy said.
