A kitchen fire Monday afternoon closed down the popular O’Brien’s Pub on lower Thames Street until further notice, according to a server at the restaurant. Deputy Fire Chief Paul Ripa said the fire call came in at 4:42 p.m. and responding firefighters brought the fire under control quickly. “It was contained to the kitchen,” he said. Fire Marshal Wayne Clark was on the scene Monday evening still investigating the fire, so no cause was released. Ripa said the department did not have an estimate on the damages. There were no injuries, he said. “To all our valued customers, we will be closed for the next few days,” the restaurant announced on its Facebook page. “We had a kitchen fire and everyone is safe. We will be back and running in no time! We’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your ongoing support and patronage.” The owners are expecting to have an update on the restaurant’s status sometime later on Tuesday.
