Crews arrived at a Privilege Street commercial building late Monday morning to find thick, black smoke billowing into the air. The call came in around 10:30 a.m. and required mutual aid from several surrounding communities. "On arrival, crews were presented with heavy smoke coming out the ventilation system through the processing plant as well as some smoke coming out of the roof," said Woonsocket Fire Chief Paul Shatraw. "We immediately called for additional resources due to the size and the complexity of the building and we called for at least a third alarm initially and went to a fourth alarm to get the resources on route to the facility." Shatraw said the building is a combination facility - one part is storage from a trucking company and the other is occupied by a manufacturing facility that makes what he called a "natural fiber type material."
