A home under construction along Stubtown Road sustained heavy damage in a fire late Monday morning, but officials said the fire was contained quickly and no one was injured.
HopeValley-Wyoming Fire Chief Justin Lee said firefighters were notified by a neighbor around 11:55 a.m. of fire and heavy smoke coming from 86 Stubtown Road, a Cape Cod-style house located on a residental road located off Canonchet Road. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames and immediately called for mutual aid.
"It was well-involved when we got there, but no one was present and the home was unoccupied," Lee said. "We were able to work together and luckily, there was a pond close by we could draw from to help put out the fire."
Hope Valley was joined by mutual response from the Ashaway, Carolina-Richmond, Charlestown and Voluntown fire departments. Ashaway and Hope Valley ambulance services were also placed on standby.
