Fire Chief Robert Lloyd is on paid administrative leave while Town Administrator Jan Reitsma conducts an investigation, but the subject matter is not being divulged. Asked if it has to do with fire department shifts at the Tiverton Casino Hotel, which was a matter of discussion at the last Town Council meeting, Reitsma said he could not comment. “There’s something we need to investigate and it would be best if people let us do what we need to do,” Reistma said Friday. There had been a dispute months ago about how many firefighters should be on duty at the 24-hours-per-day “convenience casino,” with the chief saying at a meeting before the casino opened Sept. 1 that there should be two firefighters on duty at all times, and Council President Denise deMedeiros saying just one was needed.
