The Pawtucket Fire Department has supplemented the city’s emergency fleet with a new rescue unit and pumper engine. The new vehicles, delivered to the city last Wednesday, Oct. 31, will replace the older Engine 1 and Rescue 2. Both older vehicles will be retained as part of the reserve fleet. “The addition of the new engine company and rescue unit is another step in providing our firefighters with the needed equipment that allows the department to protect the residents of the city of Pawtucket,” said Fire Chief William Sisson. The new Engine 1 replaces a 1994 pumper unit at the Columbus Avenue Fire Station 3. Rescue 2 will be replacing a 2013 rescue at the Cottage Street Fire Station and was purchased in part thanks to the Rhode Island Department of Health. Rescue 2 includes a state-of-the-art solar panel powering the instruments in the back of the ambulance.
