Fire gutted a residence at 25 Rutland St. Wednesday night.
Acting Deputy Assistant Chief Steve Capracotta said the building was vacant after another fire there about a year and a half ago. No civilians or firefighters were injured, Capracotta said. The blaze is still under investigation.
Homes on both sides of the building had to be evacuated while the fire was burning, but those people were able to get back inside and the Red Cross wasn’t needed, Capracotta said. Their homes weren’t damaged.
The building at 25 Rutland St. was gutted Thursday morning, surrounded by charred roof tiles and still smelling of smoke.
The fire went to a second alarm at about 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The address is at the southern tip of the city’s West End.
