Both retired and active Warwick firefighters, their families and the families of deceased firefighters came together Sunday morning for the traditional Firefighters’ Memorial Service at Station 1 in Apponaug. In his remarks Mayor Joseph Solomon praised the sacrifices firefighters make for others, calling them “real life super heroes.” Fire and police chaplain, Father Robert Marciano asked in his invocation that as fallen brothers are remembered, “my this place, dedicated to all who serve us, remind us always of the sacred duty of gratitude that is ours, to never forget the sacrifices made each day by the brave men and women who place themselves in harms way.” A roll call of deceased members was followed by a bell toll for each name after which the flag was raised to half-staff.
