One person is dead after a car went off the road and into the woods. The one-car crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday on I-295 South in Lincoln, just south of the Mendon Road exit in Cumberland. Rhode Island State Police say the driver died at the scene. No one else was in the car, and no other cars were involved in the crash. The car went off the road and crashed into several trees in the center median. Crews had to use chainsaws to free the car, after many of the trees came crashing down on top of it. Eyewitness News crews were on the scene, and the medical examiner arrived shortly after. Firefighters from Cumberland and Lincoln assisted state police at the scene. State police are not releasing any information about the victim until their family has been notified.
