Even without funding from the recently defeated Capital Projects Sales Tax, Abbeville County’s Cold Springs Volunteer Fire Department is still one step closer to expanding.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance local chapter Abbeville Cedar Camp 525 stopped by the station to donate $30,000 toward building a new substation. Woodmen chapter President L.O. Ashley said the money came from the chapter’s building fund — members voted to donate the money because the chapter is too small to make major use of it.
“I can’t think of anything more important than building a fire department when you need one,” Ashley said. “I’m proud to be a woodman and I’m proud to be a member of this fire department.”
